Current Position & Biography
Daniel Batten is a co-founder of CH4 Capital, a Bitcoin-focused investment business working on methane mitigation, and a writer on mining and energy. The Bitcoin MENA organizer identifies him as the firm's managing partner. His work connects capital allocation, mining infrastructure and environmental reporting rather than cryptocurrency exchange operations or protocol development. His professional links include New Zealand: his affiliation in a 2024 research paper is CH4 Capital, Auckland.
Batten also publishes The Bitcoin Adoption Letter. Its own description makes its advocacy position clear: it addresses Bitcoin adoption and the case for its environmental and social benefits. His analysis should therefore be read alongside his investment interests and the assumptions supporting individual claims, rather than as a neutral certification of the industry.
Notable Contributions
CH4 Capital describes a strategy of investing in methane-mitigation technologies, including onsite power generation and Bitcoin mining. The proposed connection is practical: electricity generated from captured gas can power mining equipment, creating revenue at locations where conventional energy sales may be difficult. These are the firm's investment objectives, not a guarantee of financial returns or verified emissions reductions at every installation.
Batten coauthored “An integrated landfill gas-to-energy and Bitcoin mining framework,” published in the Journal of Cleaner Production in 2024. The paper considers the economics of combining landfill-gas generation with Bitcoin mining. It provides a concrete research contribution linking mining revenue to waste-energy infrastructure. Its declaration of competing interests discloses Batten's equity relationship with CH4 Capital. The study should not be generalized into a finding that all Bitcoin mining is environmentally beneficial.
On December 8, 2025, Capital B announced his appointment as Strategic ESG Advisor to its board. The listed Bitcoin treasury company described the assignment as supporting its environmental, social and governance approach. This is a dated advisory appointment, not a claim that Batten serves as a director or independently audits the company's environmental performance.
In April 2025, Bitcoin Mining World announced Batten as a shareholder and adviser, another commercial connection relevant to interpreting his industry commentary.
Why Katharos Is Following Them
Batten provides a useful point of observation on how Bitcoin mining projects seek capital and explain their energy economics to investors. His research, investment activity and public writing connect the physical infrastructure behind proof-of-work with the financial arguments used to fund it. Those connections warrant examination of both commercial incentives and measured operating results.
Areas to Follow
Follow CH4 Capital's disclosed projects; the methodology and assumptions behind mining-energy models; methane capture and monitoring evidence; and the distinction between projected benefits and independently measured outcomes. Also follow the scope of his publicly disclosed advisory roles and updates to his research.
Reporting Scope
Coverage focuses on documented investment, research and infrastructure activity. Company descriptions and advocacy are attributed. Inclusion is not an endorsement of investment products, expected yields or environmental claims, and the profile does not establish current residence from an institutional affiliation.
