Current Position & Biography
Eric van der Kleij is a co-founder and general partner of EdenBase, a United Kingdom investment platform whose current focus includes quantum computing and frontier technology. His connection to blockchain comes through entrepreneurship programmes, developer support and earlier fintech advisory work. It should not be confused with a current role leading a cryptocurrency exchange or maintaining a blockchain protocol.
EdenBase's current website lists him as a co-founder and GP. Northeastern University also identifies that role and describes his work establishing QBase, a London quantum and artificial-intelligence centre. His earlier career included founding the fintech business Adeptra, serving as the first chief executive of the UK Tech City initiative and creating Level39 for Canary Wharf Group. Those are historical roles, not present-day executive appointments.
Notable Contributions
A concrete blockchain connection is EdenBase's collaboration with Minima on its 2022 Innovation Challenge. The programme invited teams to build applications using the Minima Protocol and progressed from an ideas stage to coding and proof-of-concept demonstrations. Its September 2022 announcement identified three joint winners: Stampd, a resale application using product NFTs; Minipay, contactless payments connected to a Minima wallet; and MDAE, a customer-reward advertising application. The announced prizes were denominated in Minima tokens. These were competition results and development proposals, not evidence of subsequent commercial adoption.
Van der Kleij was named as EdenBase's co-founder in that announcement. The programme illustrates the practical developer-support work of the organisation he co-founded, without assigning him authorship of the competing applications or Minima's underlying technology.
An archived October 2017 UK government Global Entrepreneur Programme publication identifies his fintech and blockchain remit. This provides dated evidence of his involvement in helping technology businesses connect with the UK innovation economy. The document has since been withdrawn, so it supports historical context rather than a claim that he still holds that government assignment.
Why Katharos Is Following Them
Van der Kleij connects the investment and business-development side of blockchain with the wider technology sector. His work offers a way to follow how young blockchain teams obtain support, test applications and interact with investors. EdenBase's current emphasis on quantum technology also makes the evolution of its investment priorities worth tracking, while keeping distinct the firm's present strategy and its earlier blockchain programmes.
Areas to Follow
Follow any new blockchain developer programmes, disclosed investment activity, evidence that supported prototypes become operational products, and changes in EdenBase's published strategy. Assess specific technical or security claims through project documentation rather than assuming that a broad frontier-technology label demonstrates blockchain expertise or deployed capability.
Reporting Scope
Coverage focuses on documented roles, dated programmes and verifiable project outcomes. It distinguishes organisational participation from personal technical authorship and current appointments from historical public-sector work. Inclusion is not an endorsement of a fund, token or investment opportunity. The United Kingdom designation describes his documented professional market, not an inference about citizenship.
