Current Position & Biography
Gilson Marques is a Brazilian federal deputy for Santa Catarina, representing the NOVO party in the Chamber of Deputies. The Chamber lists him as a serving member for the 2023–2027 term. His civil name is Gilson Marques Vieira.
A lawyer and businessman, Marques first entered the Chamber in February 2019. His official biography records legal practice in Pomerode, Santa Catarina, before his parliamentary career, a law degree from the Regional University of Blumenau and postgraduate study in civil and civil-procedure law at Fundação Getulio Vargas.
Notable Contributions
Marques has taken part in Brazil’s legislative debate over crypto-asset regulation. In a Chamber session on 27 February 2024, he directed NOVO to oppose an urgency request for a bill concerning segregation of crypto-exchange client assets and argued that existing fraud offences already addressed misconduct. Those statements document his position in that debate; they do not establish the accuracy of his broader economic claims.
On 12 May 2026, Marques and other deputies introduced PL 2324/2026, a proposed statute on the freedom to use virtual assets. It would address private contracts that provide for payment, settlement or indexation in virtual assets, and would set conditions for representing real-estate rights through tokens. The proposed text preserves the real’s legal-tender status and states that token issuance would not replace the public property register.
As reviewed on 6 November 2026, PL 2324/2026 remains a pending legislative proposal. The Chamber’s tracking page records referral on 24 June 2026 to the Labor, Economic Development, Finance and Taxation, and Constitution and Justice committees. The proposal must not be described as enacted law or an operational regulatory regime.
