Current Position & Biography
Makoto Inoue is Protocol Lead at ENS Labs, according to the current Devcon speaker directory, and has worked on Ethereum Name Service since 2018. His public developer biography describes contributions spanning frontend applications, smart contracts and data analysis, with a focus on ENS layer-two scalability. His GitHub profile lists London, United Kingdom; this is a professional location, not a statement of nationality.
Inoue's work concerns the naming infrastructure used by blockchain applications. ENS connects readable names with records such as blockchain addresses, helping applications present identifiers that people can recognize. His role is relevant to the practical integration of Ethereum services rather than cryptocurrency trading or investment management.
Notable Contributions
In October 2022, Inoue presented “ENS Cross Chain Integration Strategy” at Devcon 6. The official archive identifies him as the speaker and describes the problem his talk addressed: naming must support address resolution across wallets and chains, rather than simply copying the asset-transfer model used by bridges. This is a dated technical presentation, not a claim that its architecture remains the current implementation in every application.
The official ENS contracts repository provides a more recent record of participation. Its “ENS Contract Deployments” wiki identifies Inoue as the editor of a September 3, 2026 revision. The page documents deployed contract addresses, including registry, registrar and resolver components. That visible maintenance activity supports a concrete connection to ENS infrastructure; it does not establish that he personally authored every contract listed.
His self-published developer biography also describes participation in developer events and hackathon judging, including ETHGlobal London, ETHSeoul and ETHTokyo in 2024. These activities place his implementation work alongside developer education. They are historical engagements rather than continuing appointments to the organizations involved.
Why Katharos Is Following Them
Readable naming is an important interface between blockchain infrastructure and its users. Inoue's documented work offers a way to follow how naming services are integrated into applications, maintained across deployments and adapted to layer-two networks. The combination of engineering documentation and public technical explanations makes his contributions relevant to coverage of infrastructure usability and interoperability.
Areas to Follow
Follow ENS protocol and resolver development, publicly documented deployment changes, cross-chain naming integration and developer guidance. Distinguish experimental proposals from deployed functionality, and distinguish individual contributions from decisions made by the wider project. Changes in his formally described role should be checked against current organizational or conference sources.
Reporting Scope
Coverage focuses on documented technical work, dated presentations and publicly visible maintenance. Repository edit history is evidence of participation, not an independent security audit. Inclusion does not endorse ENS-linked assets, predict token performance or imply that a readable name removes wallet or transaction risk. The portrait is an archival image from 2013, before the ENS work described here.
