Crypto Tax Estimator
Compare estimated capital gains tax and after-tax proceeds using your assumed rates
Rates are editable assumptions, not rates selected from your income or filing status. Future sale dates model a scenario.
Applied assumed rate: 15%. This is an isolated-gain estimate before portfolio netting and other taxes.
Estimated tax at different sale prices · Green: short-term · Dashed blue: long-term
Sale price $70,000.00 · Short-term tax $4,771.20 · Long-term tax $2,982.00 · Hover to inspect
Basis = buy price × quantity + acquisition fees. Net proceeds = sell price × quantity − disposal fees. Gain = net proceeds − basis. Estimated tax = positive gain × assumed rate. After-tax proceeds are distinct from profit: profit also subtracts your basis.
For purchased crypto held as a capital asset, more than one year is long-term; one year or less is short-term. This date model uses the calendar anniversary and treats February 28 as the anniversary of a leap-day purchase in a non-leap year. It does not cover inherited or gifted assets or special holding-period rules.
Actual liability depends on the tax year, taxable income, filing status, gains and losses across all assets, carryovers and other rules. This tool does not apply progressive brackets, the net investment income tax, state or local taxes, or income tax on mining, staking or compensation. It is a planning estimate, not a tax return calculation.
