Background & Biography
Larsen’s career in blockchain began with a player’s interest in games and digital collectibles. In a 2023 Finoverse interview, he described competing in Warcraft III, Dota and Dota 2, while qualifying the common description of him as a professional gamer. He emphasized that the scene was smaller and that competitive participation did not necessarily mean a professional career. That account helps explain his interest in game economies without turning a loosely reported esports background into an unsupported sporting achievement.
Sky Mavis was founded in 2018 by a team with complementary responsibilities. Accel’s company record names Larsen alongside Trung Nguyen, Jeffrey Zirlin, Viet Anh Ho and Tu Doan. Rest of World’s reporting describes Larsen’s remit as fundraising and investor relations, with other founders concentrating on engineering, game design and community development. His contribution was therefore primarily entrepreneurial and operational; it should not be confused with sole authorship of Axie’s software or Ronin’s architecture.
The names associated with that work refer to different things. Sky Mavis is the company, Axie Infinity is its game universe, and Ronin is the network developed around the ecosystem’s blockchain requirements. Axie combined collectible creatures, battles and transferable digital assets, bringing a consumer audience into contact with wallets and marketplaces. Larsen’s influence lay partly in helping connect that product with the capital and partnerships needed to develop a larger business.
His current position is outside Sky Mavis’s operating leadership. BlockchainGamerBiz reported his departure in February 2026, while an April interview with Finansavisen specified January 31 as his final working day. Stendr’s official materials now identify him as founder and CEO. Its Oslo headquarters and Finansavisen’s reporting from the company’s offices support Norway as his current professional base, rather than carrying forward the Asia classification in older crypto directories.
Notable Contributions
A central part of Larsen’s Sky Mavis work was the business development surrounding a technically unusual game. In October 2021, the company announced a $152 million Series B to support Axie Infinity, Ronin, recruitment and distribution infrastructure. That financing is a documented company milestone, not a measure of Larsen’s personal wealth or proof that its business model was durable. His documented investor-relations responsibilities explain his relevance to the milestone, while the founding team and participating investors retain their separate roles.
Sky Mavis also moved beyond building only its own games. In the Finoverse discussion, Larsen described offering other developers tools the team had originally needed for Axie, including a wallet, marketplace and distribution hub. He framed audience development and content creation as mutually reinforcing parts of a platform. This was a practical distribution thesis: developers needed players, while players needed worthwhile experiences. It was not evidence that every game joining the ecosystem would succeed.
An important ecosystem change during his tenure came in February 2025, when Ronin opened to permissionless development. GamesBeat reported that builders could join a network previously operated around curated projects. Opening deployment to more teams expanded the range of possible applications and changed the relationship between Sky Mavis and outside developers. Network access, however, is different from a commercial partnership, endorsement or assurance about an application’s quality.
Ronin subsequently completed its migration to an Ethereum Layer 2 using the OP Stack in May 2026. The official announcement credits Conduit with leading the technical migration, and Chainstack recorded completion of the associated mainnet maintenance. This happened after Larsen’s operational departure, so it belongs to the subsequent development of an ecosystem he helped establish. Neither his founder status nor the migration itself establishes his responsibility for the deployed work or removes the need to assess its remaining risks.
Stendr represents a new phase of company building. Its April 15, 2026 announcement reported a $5.4 million pre-seed round co-led by Rainfall, ACME and Skyfall. The company described a combination of software, hardware and AI with an initial focus on drone defence, and named Robin Alexander Holm Pedersen and Markus Leonhard Hansen in senior technical roles. The funding was independently reported by Finansavisen. The supported claim is a financed development programme, not proven operational effectiveness or a completed military procurement.
The company’s September announcement added Michael Kattouf as a founding engineer responsible for technical delivery and deployment. Larsen described deployment as the next phase, which helps place the venture’s maturity in context. Public announcements establish recruitment and stated product direction; they do not independently validate performance in the field. Katharos.ai’s interest remains at the level of leadership, institutional development and the transfer of operating experience into a new sector.
Ronin’s infrastructure history includes a March 2022 bridge breach. In its June 28, 2022 reopening announcement, the project reported that user funds had been reimbursed and fully backed, while separately identifying an Axie DAO treasury shortfall. A distinct August 6, 2024 bridge-upgrade incident prompted another pause; The Block’s updated report recorded the subsequent return of the affected ETH and USDC. Ronin later reported completing its Chainlink CCIP bridge migration in April 2025. These are organizational and network events, not findings of personal wrongdoing by Sky Mavis’s founders, and later upgrades do not establish that all risks disappeared.
Why Katharos.ai Follows Aleksander Larsen
Larsen’s career illustrates the often less visible business work behind a consumer crypto product. A game can require engineering, art and economic design, but also funding, distribution and coordination with outside studios. His record makes it possible to examine how those functions interacted as Sky Mavis developed from a founding team into an ecosystem business. It also shows why an influence profile needs to keep checking whether an individual still holds the role for which they became known.
The move to Stendr creates a second, clearly bounded reporting question: which lessons from building a digital platform remain useful in a different industry? Recruiting technical teams and securing financing are observable activities, while claims about transferable advantage require evidence over time. Prior company scale does not settle whether a new product will meet customer requirements. The useful comparison is between specific decisions and documented outcomes, rather than between promotional descriptions of the two ventures.
Areas to Follow
- Current responsibilities at Stendr, including changes in leadership and independently documented business milestones. - Evidence that announced development and deployment plans become tested products and verified customer relationships. - Any explicitly documented continuing Sky Mavis or Ronin involvement, without assuming an operational role from his co-founder status. - The distinction between open network participation and commercial endorsement in the gaming ecosystem he helped develop. - How fundraising, recruitment and distribution experience translate into organizational decisions in his new sector.
Reporting Scope
Coverage concerns public professional work and dated organizational roles. Historic Sky Mavis announcements are treated as company records and assessed alongside independent reporting; they are not statements of Larsen’s personal investment performance. Stendr’s descriptions of its technology remain attributable company claims unless supported by appropriate independent evidence. This profile does not equate game participation with dependable earnings, or institutional financing with product safety.
Areas of Influence
Larsen’s principal categories are Investment & Founders and Exchanges & Infrastructure. The first reflects his company-building and fundraising responsibilities; the second reflects his historical role in a business that developed a blockchain, wallets, marketplaces and tools for other studios. His current work adds a founder-transition dimension to that history. It does not make defence technology a new crypto category, nor imply that he continues to direct Ronin’s technical roadmap.
