Current Position & Biography
Bernardo David is an Associate Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, where his work focuses on secure multiparty computation and blockchain protocols. His academic page gives a Copenhagen office and professional address. He holds a doctorate in computer science from Aarhus University, supervised by Ivan Damgård and Jesper Buus Nielsen. Before joining ITU, he was an Assistant Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Common Prefix also lists him among its scientific researchers.
Notable Contributions
David coauthored Ouroboros: A Provably Secure Proof-of-Stake Blockchain Protocol with Aggelos Kiayias, Alexander Russell and Roman Oliynykov. The paper gives a formal treatment of blockchain security using stake rather than expenditure of physical resources. It also studies a reward mechanism intended to align participant incentives with honest behavior and reports initial implementation experiments. Its guarantees depend on the protocol’s assumptions; the result should not be treated as a universal certification of every proof-of-stake network or later implementation.
Why Katharos.ai Is Following Them
Katharos.ai follows David because consensus security and privacy-preserving computation address different but connected questions: who agrees on the state of a system, and what information must be disclosed along the way? Following both areas helps distinguish a ledger’s coordination guarantees from the confidentiality guarantees of applications built on it.
Areas to Follow
Proof-of-stake protocols, multiparty computation, randomness generation and privacy-preserving blockchain applications. Coverage will pay attention to threat models, setup requirements and the relationship between economic incentives and cryptographic guarantees. A protocol’s formal properties and the operational practices of a running network require separate evaluation; neither alone answers every security question.
Reporting Scope
Denmark denotes David’s current Copenhagen academic base, not nationality. The earlier Tokyo appointment is historical. His Common Prefix association does not imply that its entire team operates in Denmark. Coverage concerns public research and documented technical contributions, with coauthors credited and no endorsement of a cryptocurrency or commercial service.
