Current Position
Ken Egan is Head of Government Affairs at the Bitcoin Policy Institute.
Background & Biography
Egan previously led operations at BlockTrace, a blockchain-analytics and cyber-intelligence business serving government clients. His earlier career included two decades at the CIA and Department of State, ending in September 2022. BPI identifies his last intelligence role as Deputy Chief of Operations at the CIA’s Center for Cyber Intelligence. These are historical positions, not present authority to speak for those agencies.
Notable Contributions
Egan is listed among the authors of BPI’s Which Money Do AI Agents Prefer? research website. The project examines model responses to monetary scenarios. Its results should not be conflated with observed payments by autonomous businesses or a demonstrated future demand for any asset. An author listing also does not establish which parts of a collective project an individual performed.
Why Katharos.ai Is Following Them
Katharos.ai follows the intersection of digital-asset policy, government engagement and technical claims. The important reporting questions concern the evidence that reaches decision-makers, the assumptions behind that evidence and the distinction between a proposed use case and a deployed system. Experience in security organisations is relevant context, but it is not a substitute for independently assessing a current argument.
Areas to Follow
Follow dated policy proposals, the public explanation of research methods and corrections when assumptions or findings change. In work involving AI, distinguish a model's generated answer from economic behaviour outside an experiment. Government engagement should be reported through attributable public activity rather than inferred influence, access or legislative success.
Reporting Scope
Geography denotes institutional context, not nationality. This is an unranked professional profile, not an endorsement of research findings or policy preferences. It does not imply a current intelligence affiliation, access to classified information or official agency approval. Coverage concerns public professional work and should distinguish an individual's responsibilities from those of an entire organisation.
