Current Position & Biography
Lord Eatwell has served in the House of Lords since July 1992. Parliament’s current career record lists him on the Financial Services Regulation Committee from January 2024. He previously held a Treasury opposition spokesperson role. His inclusion here concerns his recorded scrutiny of digital-finance proposals, not an assumed role as a stablecoin issuer or investment adviser.
Notable Contributions
At the committee’s 25 March 2026 morning hearing, Eatwell challenged the case for remunerating stablecoin backing assets and questioned why public-sector support should underpin a commercial model. He also pressed witnesses on customer-identification checks when coins pass from a known customer to another holder. These interventions tested the relationship between commercial incentives and safeguards; they were questions in a policy hearing, not findings that a particular firm had breached its obligations.
Why Katharos.ai Is Following Them
Stablecoin designs combine a business model with a system for transferring claims between users. Eatwell’s questioning makes the connection between those elements explicit. Katharos.ai follows this work to assess the evidence offered for regulatory choices without adopting a witness’s or legislator’s assertions as independently established outcomes.
Areas to Follow
Reserve remuneration, identity checks after onward transfers, issuer responsibilities and the distinction between private incentives and public benefits. Coverage will separate proposed requirements from final decisions, and compare claimed efficiency gains with the protections available to people using a service.
