Background & Biography
Vogelsang came to onchain finance through startup engineering and commercial financial software. Blockchain Capital’s current biography identifies him as a former CTO and co-founder of DeinDeal and an early engineer at Taulia, the supply-chain-finance business later acquired by SAP. Those roles gave him experience with both consumer-facing products and the operational systems surrounding business payments. The relevant continuity is practical: his later work addresses how financial information and transactions move between participants.
He helped establish Centrifuge in 2017 with collaborators from the technology and finance sectors. Its early proposition was to connect real-world receivables and other assets with blockchain-based capital. During his period as CEO, Centrifuge developed from an early tokenization project into infrastructure used for lending pools and institutional investment products. That history should not collapse a wider founding and engineering team into a single person’s achievement, nor should it make him the current executive responsible for every Centrifuge product.
The leadership transition is well documented. Centrifuge announced Bhaji Illuminati’s appointment as CEO in February 2025, noting that she had served as interim CEO since July 2024 and that Vogelsang was moving to a strategic board position. The Defiant independently covered the change. The current Centrifuge Network Foundation website lists him on its board, while Centrifuge Labs has a separate executive roster. His public professional profile identifies Switzerland, a professional geographic association distinct from the locations of the organizations with which he works.
His current operating role is co-founder and CTO of Tare, alongside CEO Kevin Miao and COO Keerthi Moudgal. Blockchain Capital also lists him as a venture partner and dates the start of Tare to 2025. In September 2026, Tare announced a $13.25 million seed round; Fortune independently reported the financing. This adds a new venture-building chapter to his Centrifuge background, with a credit-management business whose progress needs to be evaluated on its own evidence.
Notable Contributions
Centrifuge’s Tinlake product provides a concrete starting point for understanding the work. Its legacy documentation describes Ethereum smart contracts for borrower and lender functions, including separate senior and junior participation in asset pools. These structures attempted to connect financing needs outside crypto with capital and accounting mechanisms inside DeFi. The contribution was to represent financial arrangements in a form other blockchain applications could use, while retaining the underlying exposure to credit risk.
The 2021 MakerDAO integration shows how much coordination that required. Centrifuge’s contemporary account describes New Silver completing Maker governance and connecting its Tinlake pool to a Maker vault, with a debt ceiling limiting the amount that could be drawn. It identifies Centrifuge as the technology provider, the asset originator as the applicant, Maker’s real-world-finance specialists as risk assessors and token holders as the decision makers. Vogelsang’s contribution belongs within the founding leadership of that infrastructure effort. The record does not make him the sole lender, underwriter or approving authority.
His individual participation is more explicit in the April 2024 governance proposal CP103, co-authored with ImdioR, to create a lending market for eligible real-world-asset pool tokens. The proposal argued that tokenized assets needed additional uses in DeFi, including the ability to serve as collateral. Its passed status documents a governance outcome; it does not by itself prove every proposed feature shipped. The distinction is useful because market-building involves separate stages of proposal, approval, technical delivery and actual borrowing or investment.
Vogelsang also helped articulate the need for coordination across firms. Centrifuge was a founding member of the Tokenized Asset Coalition, launched in 2023 with organizations including Aave Companies, Circle, Coinbase and others. In a Blockworks interview, he discussed collaboration and standards as conditions for building a functioning market. This public contribution sits in industry coordination and education. The value of common infrastructure depends on participants being able to work together beyond one company’s interface.
Centrifuge’s subsequent institutional expansion illustrates the ecosystem his early work helped establish. Anemoy’s September 2024 announcement distinguished its ownership of a tokenized Treasury fund, Janus Henderson subsidiary Tabula’s portfolio-management responsibilities and Centrifuge’s technology role. That allocation of responsibilities matters as much as the token itself. Investors obtain exposure through a particular fund and its governing arrangements; a protocol founder is not automatically the fund manager or guarantor. The same care applies when discussing later partnerships announced after Vogelsang’s CEO tenure.
The protocol also evolved technically. Centrifuge announced the launch of V3 across six EVM networks in July 2025, following a development and migration process, with Wormhole supplying interoperability infrastructure. This was a delivered team-level milestone, unlike an earlier proposal merely seeking approval to build it. It shows how Centrifuge moved toward broader distribution and asset management across networks. It should be attributed to the operating team, governance process and partners, rather than treated as a personal release by a former CEO.
Tare brings Vogelsang back to the full credit workflow. Its current product materials describe origination, servicing, payment allocation, capital raising and portfolio monitoring on a shared platform. Those are the company’s stated capabilities and focus, not independently verified evidence that every lender has adopted the system or that borrowers receive better terms. The distinction is especially important for a recently financed business. Katharos.ai treats the funding announcement as evidence of company development while looking separately for production use, customer disclosures and measurable operating improvements.
Why Katharos.ai Follows Lucas Vogelsang
Vogelsang is relevant because his work repeatedly reaches the boundary between software and enforceable financial arrangements. An onchain record can improve how participants coordinate, but it still needs reliable information about an asset and a clear account of who services it. Credit brings repayment schedules, losses, cash reconciliation and legal claims into a setting often discussed primarily through trading and liquidity. His career provides an informative route into those less visible requirements of financial infrastructure.
The combination of Tare, an investment-firm affiliation and a foundation board role also makes role clarity a continuing editorial priority. Each position can influence a different part of the market: product design, support for other founders or stewardship of an ecosystem. None makes the organizations interchangeable. Following the specific capacity in which Vogelsang acts is more informative than applying a broad tokenization-pioneer label to every subsequent transaction or initiative.
Areas to Follow
- Tare’s transition from financing and product description to independently documented operating deployments and customer outcomes. - Loan-level data quality, servicing responsibilities and reconciliation between onchain records and offchain payments. - The difference between token transferability, available secondary liquidity and an investor’s actual redemption rights. - Centrifuge’s governance and foundation oversight as distinct from Centrifuge Labs’ product execution and asset managers’ investment decisions. - Evidence that shared standards reduce integration costs without obscuring credit, operational or compliance risks.
Reporting Scope
This profile covers public professional work verified on 6 October 2026. It distinguishes Vogelsang’s former CEO role from his current foundation-board, investment and Tare responsibilities. Company statements about technology, funding and partnerships are attributed to the relevant organization, and proposed capabilities are separated from documented launches. No personal holdings, net worth, private identity information, investment recommendations or guarantees about loan performance are included.
Areas of Influence
Exchanges & Infrastructure reflects tokenization and the systems connecting asset pools with decentralized applications. Investment & Founders covers business creation and the documented venture-partner role, without implying a particular investment record. Community, Media & Education captures Vogelsang’s public explanation of market infrastructure and participation in collaborative industry initiatives. His influence is most usefully assessed through the connection between those activities and the practical administration of credit.
