Current Position
Sarah Harris leads Payments Settlements at the Reserve Bank of Australia. Australia is the professional jurisdiction used here, not an assertion about her nationality or private residence.
Background & Biography
Harris was appointed to the department’s leadership in November 2023 after serving as its deputy head. Earlier RBA work included oversight of clearing and settlement systems and policy relating to financial-market-infrastructure recovery and resolution. Before joining the central bank, she spent more than thirteen years at the UK Financial Services Authority, including responsibility for clearing and settlement supervision. Her qualifications include an honours degree in finance and accounting and Australian Institute of Company Directors graduate status.
Notable Contributions
Her documented career combines infrastructure supervision with central-bank operations. The appointment placed responsibility for the Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System, or RITS, within her leadership remit. This is an operational responsibility, not a claim that she personally created the system.
The RBA describes her department as operating interbank settlement through central-bank accounts. Its responsibilities include the Fast Settlement Service supporting Australia’s New Payments Platform, together with settlement services for other payments and official transactions. These are departmental functions, not independently measured achievements attributable to one person.
Why Katharos.ai Is Following Them
Katharos.ai follows Harris because payment innovation still depends on reliable final settlement. Her operational perspective offers a useful counterpoint to claims that token transfers alone solve the complete payments process. Coverage will ask how new arrangements connect to established infrastructure without assuming that she endorses any cryptocurrency product.
Areas to Follow
Follow published RITS service developments, settlement resilience, operational controls and the relationship between fast retail payments and final interbank settlement. Any connection to tokenisation or digital-money experiments needs separate project-specific evidence before it is attributed to Harris.
Reporting Scope
Coverage concerns public professional responsibilities and documented infrastructure developments. Separate institutional decisions from individual statements, and operational services from policy proposals. Inclusion is not an endorsement by Harris or the RBA of Katharos.ai, nor investment advice.
