Crypto’s Security Crisis Has Two Fronts: Fresh Exploits Drain $11M as Bitget Funds Hit Permissionless Cross-Chain Rails

Crypto’s latest security wave is exposing two separate weaknesses at once: protocols are still being breached through bridges, wallet infrastructure and validation logic, while recovery becomes increasingly difficult once stolen assets enter permissionless cross-chain systems. Payy Network, Duelbits and Meter suffered more than $11 million in combined losses on September 24, the same day Bitget disclosed a much larger breach later revised to approximately $387.5 million. As Bitget-linked funds moved through THORChain, the protocol rejected calls to block identified attacker addresses, reigniting debate over whether decentralized infrastructure should remain neutral even when handling publicly tracked stolen assets.

South Korea’s Upbit has expanded trading support for Nillion (NIL) by adding a Korean-won market, giving domestic traders direct fiat access to the privacy-focused blockchain infrastructure token. Ripple Wins Final U.S. Trust Bank Approval as RLUSD Moves Deeper Into Federally Supervised Finance

Ripple has received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Ripple National Trust Bank, completing a federal charter process that began with its application in July 2025 and conditional approval five months later. The new federally supervised trust bank will manage segregated reserves supporting Ripple USD, act as collateral trustee for the benefit of RLUSD holders and provide fiduciary custody services for digital assets. The approval represents a significant expansion of Ripple’s regulated U.S. infrastructure, but it does not convert Ripple into a conventional full-service commercial bank authorized to take ordinary deposits or make commercial loans.
