Ledger is attempting to redefine the hardware wallet with a new device called Ledger Atom, combining an Android-based mobile environment with a separate hardware-secured system for cryptocurrency transactions, identity verification and other sensitive digital operations. The product, unveiled at Ledger’s Op3n 2026 event in Paris, arrives as the company continues responding to concerns raised by a hardware-wallet tampering investigation involving third-party reseller channels in Southeast Asia. It also introduces a broader strategic direction for Ledger, bringing together self-custody, mobile Web3 applications, autonomous AI-agent authorization and early post-quantum security planning within one device.
