South Korea Moves Toward Fourth Crypto Tax Delay as 2029 Becomes the New Target

South Korea is moving toward postponing cryptocurrency income taxation for a fourth time, with the presidential office and government considering shifting the start date from January 1, 2027, to January 1, 2029. Korean reporting on October 25 indicates that the administration has increasingly moved in favor of another two-year delay, citing incomplete tax-reporting infrastructure, the challenge of tracking overseas transactions and concerns that domestic investors could face an uneven burden before international information-sharing systems are fully operational. The postponement has not yet become law, however, and government-party consultations and parliamentary approval are still required before the existing 2027 implementation date changes.

Ripple Wins Final U.S. Trust Bank Approval as RLUSD Moves Deeper Into Federally Supervised Finance

Ripple has received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Ripple National Trust Bank, completing a federal charter process that began with its application in July 2025 and conditional approval five months later. The new federally supervised trust bank will manage segregated reserves supporting Ripple USD, act as collateral trustee for the benefit of RLUSD holders and provide fiduciary custody services for digital assets. The approval represents a significant expansion of Ripple’s regulated U.S. infrastructure, but it does not convert Ripple into a conventional full-service commercial bank authorized to take ordinary deposits or make commercial loans.
